Lake Forest College Theater Department Presents “She Kills Monsters”
Lake Forest, IL – This upcoming weekend, Lake Forest College Theater Department is proud to present “She Kills Monsters”, an emotional and thrilling exploration of grief, identity, and the power of imagination. The play, written by Qui Nguyen, promises audiences an unforgettable journey into the world of Dungeons & Dragons, as well as into the heart of one young woman’s grief.
Cindy Landaeta, a cast member portraying Evil Gabbi, shares her thoughts on the play: “I am not going to give spoilers, you really have to come and watch it, but this is a beautiful piece that really explores the journey of sexuality that many young people have to go through when coming out”.
The story revolves around Agnes, portrayed by Chelsea Davis, who is devastated by the sudden death of her teen sister, Tilly. In her quest to understand her sister better, Agnes discovers a hidden Dungeons & Dragons campaign created by Tilly. Through this fantastical realm, Agnes not only encounters goblins and fairies but also comes face to face with her own sorrow and secrets, ultimately forging an unexpected connection with her sister.
“She Kills Monsters” carries content warnings for sibling loss, grief, bullying, homophobic language, and mild sexual and adult themes, providing a rich and multifaceted experience for audiences, according to the News and Events calendar of Lake Forest College.
The performances will take place in Hixon Hall from April 11 to April 14, with shows at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Lake Forest College Students, Faculty, and Staff can attend for free, while tickets for other adults are $15 and $5 for other students.
